MOWSA helps swimmers challenge themselves and reach big goals in Massachusetts' waters.

How it Works:

  • Understand the rules and risks. If you want to complete one of the established solo marathon swims we offer or another solo marathon swim in Massachusetts, please start by reading our rules and shark protocol.

  • Check available dates. Our events all take tidal changes into account, and you’ll need to plan your swim date and start time accordingly. Please see the solo swim pages for info about dates with favorable tides. (This is currently being updated for 2022 and should be finalized by early February.)

  • Contact a boat pilot. We have a list of pilots we work with and are currently updating this resource and will have a list of pilots posted by early February 2022. Swimmers must arrange boating support directly with the pilot and pilot fees are separate from MOWSA sanctioning fees. MOWSA will supply an observer and organize necessary Coast Guard and other permits from regulatory agencies.

  • Contact us to schedule your swim. We are currently updating our sanction application forms and will have them finalized by early February. But feel free to contact us now to express interest and start your planning.

We look forward to helping you achieve your goal!
